ACB arrests patwari, his assistant for demanding, accepting bribe in Jammu

JAMMU (KIMS) — The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Tuesday arrested a patwari and his assistant for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of ₹70,000 in Jammu.

According to an ACB statement, Shashi Kumar, Patwari of Patwar Halqa Gole, and his assistant, Harkeerat Singh, were trapped and arrested after a complaint alleging that they had demanded illegal gratification for issuing two Fards (revenue extracts).

The complainant, unwilling to pay the bribe, approached the ACB and sought legal action against the accused officials.

Following a discreet verification, which established a prima facie case of bribery, the ACB registered FIR No. 08/2026 at Police Station ACB Central, Jammu, under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, and Section 61(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), and initiated investigation.

During the course of investigation, a trap team was constituted, which laid a successful trap and caught both accused red-handed while allegedly demanding and accepting the bribe amount of ₹70,000 from the complainant.

The accused were arrested on the spot, and the tainted bribe money was recovered from their possession in the presence of independent witnesses associated with the trap team, the statement said.

Following the arrests, searches were conducted at the residential premises of both accused in the presence of Executive Magistrates.

Further investigation into the case is underway. — (KIMS)
