AIIMS Awantipora to start OPD services before December 2026: J P Nadda

SRINAGAR — Union Health Minister J P Nadda on Thursday said AIIMS Awantipora in south Kashmir is expected to commence Outpatient Department (OPD) services before December 2026, with inpatient (IPD) services and academic activities scheduled to begin in July 2027.
In a post on X, Nadda said he reviewed the progress and operational readiness of AIIMS Awantipora, with a focus on expediting the commencement of healthcare services for the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
He said directions had been issued to expedite the procurement of medical equipment, recruitment and other essential arrangements to ensure the timely operationalisation of OPD services.
Nadda also directed the completion of the remaining construction works by March 2027, noting that construction was nearing completion and all major buildings were ready despite the challenging terrain.
Appreciating the efforts of the Central Public Works Department (CPWD) and other stakeholders, he said the institute would emerge as a major centre for advanced medical care and strengthen tertiary healthcare facilities in Jammu and Kashmir.
He said AIIMS Awantipora would bring specialised treatment closer to people in the region, in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of accessible, affordable and quality healthcare for all. — (KIMS)
