JAMMU — Police have detained an alleged habitual bovine smuggler under the Public Safety Act (PSA) in Akhnoor area of Jammu district, officials said on Saturday.
The detenue, identified as Hamid Mohd, a resident of Truta Phalla in Akhnoor tehsil, was detained under the Jammu and Kashmir Public Safety Act, 1978, following an order issued by the District Magistrate, Jammu.
Police Station Akhnoor executed the detention order, and the accused has been lodged in District Jail Bhaderwah, police said.
According to police records, 10 FIRs were registered against him between 2017 and 2023 in connection with various criminal cases, including bovine smuggling.
Police said a detailed dossier was prepared based on his criminal antecedents and inputs regarding activities allegedly prejudicial to public order, following which the competent authority issued the detention order. — (KIMS)
