Police bust two arms, narcotics networks in Amritsar; 4 arrested

AMRITSAR — Amritsar Rural Police has dismantled two illegal arms and narcotics supply networks, arrested four accused and recovered 15 kg of opium, an M16 rifle, nine illegal pistols and 25 live cartridges, Punjab Police said.

In a post on X, Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab Police said the operation marked a major breakthrough against illegal arms trafficking and narcotics smuggling.

Preliminary investigation has revealed that the accused are allegedly linked to foreign-based smugglers and involved in procuring illegal weapons, police said.

Separate FIRs have been registered at Police Stations Gharinda and Lopoke in Amritsar. Further investigation is underway to establish the networks’ backward and forward linkages and identify other persons involved in the illegal supply of weapons and narcotics.

Punjab Police reiterated its commitment to maintaining strict vigil against illegal arms trafficking and organised criminal networks and taking firm action against those involved. — (KIMS)
