Doda Court sentences drug trafficker to 10 years in prison, ₹1 lakh fine

DODA — The Sessions Court, Bhaderwah, has convicted a drug trafficker in an NDPS case registered at Police Station Gandoh and sentenced him to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment along with a fine of ₹1 lakh, police said.

The convict, identified as Abdul Qayoom, son of Lassa Zargar and a resident of Sham Dalian in Tehsil Kahara of Doda district, was convicted in FIR No. 106/2021 registered under Sections 8/20 of the NDPS Act.

According to police, the case relates to the recovery of 1.1 kg of charas from Qayoom. The quantity falls under the commercial quantity category under the NDPS Act.

After conclusion of the trial and examination of the evidence presented before it, the court found the accused guilty and awarded him 10 years of rigorous imprisonment besides the ₹1 lakh fine.

The court further ordered that in case of non-payment of the fine, the convict would undergo an additional one year of imprisonment.

Police said the conviction was secured following a professional investigation, effective prosecution and sustained monitoring of the case, reaffirming its efforts to curb drug trafficking and bring those involved in the illicit trade to justice. — (KIMS)
