Two buildings, six shops, two kanals of land attached in Sopore over JeI links

SRINAGAR — Jammu and Kashmir Police on Thursday has attached two buildings, six shops and two kanals of land in Dooru area of Sopore after establishing their alleged links with the proscribed Jamaat-e-Islami Jammu & Kashmir (JeI) under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.

The action was taken during the investigation of FIR No. 42/2025 registered at Police Station Sopore under Sections 10 and 13 of the UA(P) Act.

According to police, sustained investigation, scrutiny of official and revenue records and verification with the concerned authorities established the linkage of the properties with JeI.

Based on a dossier submitted by Sopore Police, the Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir, through an order dated August 12, 2026, notified the premises of Islamia Model School at Dooru under Section 8(1) of the UA(P) Act, 1967. The school has reportedly remained closed since 2022 and the notified property comprises two double-storey buildings, six shops and two kanals of land.

Subsequently, on the request of Sopore Police, the District Magistrate, Baramulla, issued orders under Sections 8(3) and 8(4) of the UA(P) Act.

Police, accompanied by an Executive Magistrate, then carried out the attachment of the notified properties on the ground in accordance with the law.

Police said the action forms part of its sustained efforts to identify and take legal action against properties and assets allegedly linked to proscribed organisations and their associated networks. — (KIMS)
