MMU expresses outrage over sale of pork products on Blinkit in Kashmir, seeks immediate removal

SRINAGAR (KIMS) — Mutahida Majlis-e-Ulema (MMU) Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday expressed outrage over the alleged listing of pork products for sale on the online delivery platform Blinkit in Kashmir, urging the company to immediately remove such products from its stock in the Valley.

In a statement, the MMU said screenshots shared by public had brought to its notice that pork products were being listed for sale on the platform in Kashmir.

The MMU said that the sale and consumption of pork is prohibited in Islam and that Muslims are highly sensitive to the issue. It questioned how such products were allowed to enter the market for sale and called for a serious investigation into the matter by the authorities.

The religious body also urged the authorities to identify those responsible and issue appropriate warnings to prevent the recurrence of such incidents.

The MMU appealed to Blinkit to immediately remove the products from its inventory and ensure that pork products are neither stocked, advertised nor sold in Kashmir.

It further said that businesses operating in the region should respect its religious and cultural sensitivities and act responsibly while offering products to consumers. — (KIMS)
