Joint mock drill held in Ganderbal to boost Amarnath Yatra security preparedness

SRINAGAR (KIMS) — Jammu and Kashmir Police on Wednesday conducted a joint mock drill at Nilgrath, Sonamarg in Ganderbal district to assess the preparedness and operational readiness of various stakeholder agencies for responding to emergencies during the ongoing Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra (SANJY)-2026.

According to a police statement, the exercise was carried out as part of the comprehensive security and disaster management preparedness for the annual pilgrimage under the close coordination of Police Station Sonamarg, Special Operations Group (SOG) Ganderbal, the Army, Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs), Fire and Emergency Services, the Health Department and other allied agencies associated with the Yatra.

The mock drill simulated an emergency scenario requiring a coordinated multi-agency response and focused on evaluating inter-agency coordination, communication systems, rapid mobilisation of resources, rescue and evacuation procedures, casualty management, traffic regulation and the overall effectiveness of emergency response mechanisms in accordance with the prescribed Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).

Police said the exercise was aimed at strengthening coordination among all participating agencies and ensuring swift and effective response to any emergency during the Yatra.
