Srinagar, July 14: Acting on the directions of the Transport Commissioner, Jammu & Kashmir, the Enforcement Squad of the Motor Vehicles Department (MVD), J&K, conducted a major technical inspection and traffic enforcement drive across Srinagar, including Bemina and HMT, resulting in the seizure of 29 auto rickshaws and the recommendation for suspension of 10 driving licences.

The drive was led by Er. Mubashir Jan, Head of the UT Enforcement Squad and Assistant Regional Transport Officer (ARTO), Flying Squad, as part of the department’s ongoing efforts to strengthen road safety and ensure strict compliance with transport laws.

Speaking to the ANN News, Er. Mubashir Jan said that more than 50 auto rickshaws were challaned for violating various provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, and the Central Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989. He urged auto-rickshaw owners to install and maintain functional fare meters and advised drivers to wear the prescribed uniform while operating public transport vehicles.

During the drive, enforcement officials detected several violations, including overloading, overspeeding, lane indiscipline, defective lighting systems, missing reflectors, and permit violations. Comprehensive inspections were also carried out to verify vehicle documents and roadworthiness.
Er. Mubashir Jan said the objective of the enforcement campaign is to enhance passenger safety, improve transparency in public transport services, and ensure strict adherence to traffic and transport regulations. He added that similar drives will continue across the Union Territory, with stringent action against violators, including challans, seizure of vehicles, and suspension of driving licences wherever warranted.
The Motor Vehicles Department appealed to all transport operators to cooperate with enforcement authorities and comply with statutory requirements in the interest of safer and more efficient public transport services across Jammu and Kashmir.
