Property of drug peddler bulldozed, another attached in Udhampur
Jammu, Jun 18: A commercial property belonging to an alleged drug peddler was demolished and another property attached in Udhampur district of Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday, police said.
Five drug peddlers, including a woman, were also arrested with narcotic substances amid an intensified anti-drug campaign across the Jammu region, a police spokesperson said.
He said police and the district administration demolished an illegally constructed property worth lakhs belonging to Karan Pathi, who is involved in narcotics activities in Deol Gali village, Udhampur district.
The spokesperson said during the investigation, officials found that he encroached on state land and constructed commercial structures, including two shops.
He said Udhampur police also attached immovable property belonging to drug peddler Shubam Prashar alias “Cobra” at Roun Domail.
The spokesperson said police also seized a car belonging to a drug peddler in Rajouri district.
The spokesperson said police arrested Sahil Verma and Mukesh Kumar after one kilogram of charas was recovered from their possession during their motorcycle’s checking in the Lakhanpur area of Kathua district.
The spokesperson said police apprehended Heena Begum alias “Takri”, wife of Zaheer Abbas, in Doda district, and recovered 15 grams of a heroin-like substance, a digital weighing machine, silver foil and other incriminating material commonly used for consuming narcotic drugs.
He said Doda police also traced proceeds of crime linked to the narcotics trade and successfully froze bank accounts containing about Rs 19 lakh belonging to several other persons linked to drug trafficking.
The spokesperson said financial investigation is being pursued further to identify additional assets and proceeds generated through illegal activities.
He said during checking in Lamberi in Nowshera area of Rajouri district, police arrested another drug peddler, Aziz Ahmed, with 3.16 grams of heroin.
Police also arrested an auto driver, Gurjeet Singh, after 9.38 grams of heroin was recovered from him near Matti Morh in Jhullas area of Poonch district, he said. (PTI)
