Kashmir Sunni Scholars’ Body Calls Emergency Meeting, Announces Suspension of Karwan-e-Islami Chief
Srinagar, June 9:
The Muttahida Ulama-e-Ahlisunnat Jammu & Kashmir convened an emergency high-level meeting on Monday to discuss the allegations leveled against Ghulam Rasool Hami, Chairman of Karwan-e-Islami International, following the registration of a rape case against him.
According to a statement issued by the scholars’ body, members thoroughly reviewed the available information, reports, and developments related to the case. The organization emphasized that while allegations remain under investigation, the matter has generated serious concern among the public and religious circles.
The meeting noted that institutions and organizations should uphold transparency and accountability, particularly when their leadership is facing serious accusations. The scholars stressed that the law must take its course and that a fair and impartial investigation should be ensured.
As an immediate measure, the body announced the suspension of Ghulam Rasool Hami from the basic membership of Karwan-e-Islami International until the completion of the investigation.
The scholars’ body also urged authorities to conduct a transparent and speedy probe and called upon the public to avoid speculation while allowing the legal process to proceed independently.
The statement was signed by the leadership of Muttahida Ulama-e-Ahlisunnat Jammu & Kashmir and released following the emergency meeting held on June 9, 2026.
