Srinagar, June 9: Fresh MPLADS data has revealed a stark contrast in the implementation of development projects across Jammu and Kashmir’s five Lok Sabha constituencies, with Udhampur significantly outperforming the remaining four constituencies in both project completion and fund utilization.
According to the latest figures, Udhampur MP Dr. Jitendra Singh has completed 174 out of 333 sanctioned works, achieving a completion rate of 52.3 percent and utilizing 28.2 percent of the allocated MPLADS funds. The constituency stands well ahead of the rest of Jammu and Kashmir in terms of execution of development projects.
In contrast, the performance of the other four MPs has come under scrutiny due to the low number of completed works despite substantial allocations under the MPLADS scheme.
Srinagar MP Aga Syed Ruhullah Mehdi has completed only 19 out of 163 sanctioned works, leaving 144 projects pending. The constituency has utilized just 10.7 percent of the allocated funds.
Baramulla MP Abdul Rashid Sheikh has completed only 12 of 124 sanctioned works, with 112 works still pending. The completion rate stands at a mere 9.7 percent despite the availability of MPLADS funds.
Similarly, Jammu MP Jugal Kishore Sharma has completed 26 out of 193 works, while 167 projects remain unfinished. The constituency has recorded a completion rate of only 13.5 percent.
Anantnag-Rajouri MP Mian Altaf Ahmad has registered the lowest number of completed works among all five constituencies. Only 6 out of 66 sanctioned projects have been completed, leaving 60 works pending and raising concerns over the pace of development in the constituency.
The data indicates that while crores of rupees have been allocated under the MPLADS scheme, a significant number of projects across Srinagar, Baramulla, Jammu and Anantnag-Rajouri remain incomplete. The low completion rates are likely to trigger questions from residents regarding delays in project execution and the pace of development on the ground.
With Udhampur recording more completed works than the other four constituencies combined, the figures have intensified the debate over the effectiveness of MPLADS implementation and the accountability of elected representatives in ensuring timely completion of public development projects.
