Four Notorious Drug Peddlers Booked Under PIT NDPS Act in Shopian
Shopian, May 07: In a major crackdown against drug trafficking under the NashaMuktJammuandKashmirAbhiyaan, Jammu and Kashmir Police in Shopian have booked four notorious and habitual drug peddlers under the provisions of the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act.
The accused persons have been identified as:
Nadeem Ahmad Mir, son of Ab Hameed Mir, resident of Melhura Zainapora.
Ajeed Ahmad Mir, son of Abdul Rashid Mir, resident of Melhura Zainapora.
Mohd Asif Mir, son of Abdul Rashid Mir, resident of Hergam Keller.
Mohd Yaqoob Shah, son of Mohd Sultan Shah, resident of Rawalpora Shopian.
According to police officials, the detention orders were issued by the Divisional Commissioner Kashmir after a detailed dossier was submitted by Shopian Police highlighting the sustained involvement of the accused in illicit drug trafficking activities. The accused were reportedly involved in multiple narcotics-related FIRs and are considered repeat offenders.
Following the orders, all four accused have been lodged in Central Jail Kot Bhalwal.
Police said the preventive detention became necessary due to the serious threat posed by the accused to public health, peace, and the wellbeing of vulnerable youth. The action reflects the zero-tolerance policy of J&K Police against drug trafficking and its continued resolve to eradicate the menace of drugs from society.
Shopian Police reiterated that sustained operations against drug peddlers and their networks will continue across the district. Citizens have also been urged to cooperate with police by sharing information regarding drug peddling or any suspicious activities in their localities.
