Baramulla, May 2: In a major action to safeguard public health, a joint team of the Food Safety Department, magistrate and Baramulla Police conducted a raid in a godown in Baramulla town and seized a large quantity of bakery items.

According to officials, the items had been prepared before Eid-ul-Fitr and were allegedly intended to be resold during the upcoming Eid-ul-Adha. The products were found dumped in the godown without any expiry dates, raising serious concerns over food safety and public health.

Acting on specific inputs about the storage of stale and outdated bakery items, the Food Safety team, along with the magistrate and police, carried out the raid and recovered the stock from the premises.

Speaking to ANN News, a Food Safety Officer said, “We received information that old and spoiled bakery items were being stored in a godown in Baramulla. A joint team immediately reached the spot and found that the items had no expiry dates and were unfit for human consumption. All the seized items have been destroyed on the spot.”

The officer further warned food business operators to strictly adhere to food safety norms, especially the mandatory mention of manufacturing and expiry dates on all edible products. He emphasized that any violation will invite strict legal action.

The Food Safety Department also appealed to the general public to remain vigilant and report any such illegal practices, stressing that collective efforts are essential to ensure the safety and well-being of consumers.
