Kulgam Police, Revenue Officials Destroy Illicit Poppy Cultivation in Ashmuji Area
Kulgam, April 25: In a decisive action against illegal narcotics cultivation, Kulgam Police in coordination with the Revenue Department today destroyed illicit poppy cultivation in the Kantchow area of Ashmuji, District Kulgam.
Acting on specific information and as part of an intensified drive against narcotics, a joint team comprising officials from Police and Revenue Department, led by the Tehsildar and SHO Kulgam, reached the spot and identified the location where illegal poppy cultivation was being carried out. The crop was subsequently destroyed on the spot.
In this connection, FIR No. 62/2026 under relevant sections 8/18 of the NDPS Act has been registered against the concerned landowner, and further investigation has been initiated.
Meanwhile, the District Administration Kulgam has reiterated that individuals involved in such illegal cultivation have been given a time-bound period of one month to voluntarily destroy any poppy cultivation on their land. Failing which, strict legal action, including registration of cases under the NDPS Act, will be taken against violators.
The operation was carried out under the directions of the Deputy Commissioner Kulgam and SSP Kulgam reflecting the administration’s firm commitment to eradicate the menace of drug cultivation and trafficking from the district.
Authorities have urged the public to cooperate with law enforcement agencies and report any instances of illegal cultivation or drug-related activities.
