LeT Terrorist ‘Khargosh’ Escapes India, Surfaces in Saudi Arabia Using Fake Identity: Sources

A Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorist identified as Umer Harris, alias ‘Khargosh’, has reportedly fled India and is currently believed to be in Saudi Arabia after escaping using forged identity documents, sources told ANN News.

According to officials, Harris managed to obtain a fake passport under the name “Sajjad,” posing as a resident of Rajasthan. Investigations reveal that he initially fled to Indonesia before relocating to Saudi Arabia between 2024 and 2025 using another forged travel document.

Sources said that the Srinagar Police, which is leading the investigation into the case, has uncovered a deep-rooted inter-state terror module with links across Jammu and Kashmir, Rajasthan, Haryana, and Punjab. The findings have been shared with central intelligence agencies, highlighting serious loopholes in identity verification and passport issuance systems.

The case, originally registered by Jammu and Kashmir Police, is likely to be handed over to the National Investigation Agency (NIA) for further probe.

Investigators have also revealed that Harris, contrary to earlier claims, is a native of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in Pakistan. He was active in parts of Srinagar and Bandipora and had married the daughter of an Over Ground Worker (OGW) during his stay in India. The marriage reportedly took place in Jaipur under his fake identity, and the documents were later used to support his passport application.

Sources further disclosed that security forces recently dismantled a major inter-state module linked to the terror outfit. Five individuals have been arrested in connection with the case, including two Pakistani terrorists identified as Abdullah alias Abu Hureira, who had been evading arrest for 16 years, and Usman alias Khubaib.

Three local residents — Mohammad Naqeeb Bhat, Adil Rashid Bhat, and Ghulam Mohammad Mir alias Mama — were also arrested for allegedly providing logistical support, including shelter, food, and assistance in procuring arms.

During the operation, multiple hideouts in forested areas around Srinagar were also busted.

Authorities are now working through diplomatic channels to secure the deportation of Umer Harris back to India, sources added.
