Anantnag, May 11 (ANN): In a major offensive against drug trafficking, Anantnag Police has intensified its anti-narcotics operations during the first month of the 100-day ‘Nasha Mukt JK Abhiyan’ launched by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, registering significant success across the district.

According to official figures, police registered 120 FIRs under the NDPS Act and arrested 118 drug peddlers during the month-long drive. More than 300 kilograms of narcotic substances were seized in multiple operations carried out across Anantnag district.

As part of a parallel financial investigation into the illegal drug trade, authorities attached properties worth nearly ₹10 crore in 14 cases linked to proceeds generated through narcotics trafficking. In addition, two illegally acquired properties worth approximately ₹3.5 crore were demolished, taking the total value of actioned properties to around ₹13.5 crore.

Police also destroyed illegal narcotic cultivation spread over nearly 300 marlas of land and disposed of around 1,084 kilograms of seized narcotic substances after completion of legal formalities.

Among those arrested were one female drug peddler and two female narcotic cultivators. Officials further stated that two government employees allegedly involved in narcotics-related activities were also booked under relevant provisions of law.

In coordination with the transport department, authorities cancelled 13 driving licences (DLs) and nine vehicle registration certificates (RCs) linked to individuals involved in drug-related offences. Preventive detention was also invoked against 119 habitual offenders under relevant laws.

To further tighten the anti-drug net, police conducted 80 Narcotics Control Area Search Operations (CASOs) aimed at dismantling supply chains and identifying active drug networks operating in the district.

Meanwhile, inspections carried out at 45 medical shops revealed 15 violations, following which legal proceedings were initiated against the violators. Police also busted two narcotics hideouts during the campaign.

To strengthen investigation standards in narcotics cases, 50 Investigating Officers (IOs) underwent specialised training at District Police Office (DPO) Anantnag on NDPS procedures, evidence collection and legal protocols.

“Anantnag Police reiterates its firm commitment towards eradicating the drug menace from society,” a police spokesperson said, appealing to the public—particularly the youth—to cooperate with law enforcement agencies by reporting drug-related activities.

The spokesperson added that public participation remains crucial in making society drug-free and securing the future of younger generations.
