J&K govt allows eligible employees to switch from NPS to Old Pension Scheme
SRINAGAR — The Jammu and Kashmir Government has issued orders extending coverage under the Old Pension Scheme (OPS) to employees appointed against posts that were advertised or notified before December 24, 2009, but who subsequently joined service under the New Pension Scheme (NPS).
The decision was taken following approval by the Council of Ministers, the Chief Minister’s Office said in a post on X.
Under the order, eligible employees will be given a one-time option to switch from the NPS to the OPS.
The option must be exercised through the proper channel within three months from the issuance of the order, the government said.
The option, once exercised, will be final. Employees who do not exercise the option within the stipulated period will continue to remain covered under the NPS.
The move will benefit thousands of employees who were appointed against posts advertised or notified before the introduction of the NPS in Jammu and Kashmir. — (KIMS)
