Police attach house, freeze cash in Shopian drug trafficking case
SRINAGAR — Jammu and Kashmir Police have attached a residential house and frozen cash worth ₹4.73 lakh in Shopian district, alleging that the property and money were acquired through proceeds of drug trafficking, officials said on Friday.
Police said the residential house, built on 1,065 sq ft of land at Melhura village and valued at ₹16.56 lakh, belongs to Farooq Ahmad Shah, adopted son of Ghulam Hassan Shah, a resident of Melhura.
In addition, cash amounting to ₹4,73,500 was frozen/seized, police said.
The action was taken under Section 68-F(1) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act in connection with FIR No. 58/2024 registered at Police Station Zainapora.
According to police, the property and cash were identified as having been acquired through proceeds generated from the illegal trade in drugs and narcotics.
The attachment and freezing proceedings were conducted in the presence of a police team, an Executive Magistrate, Lambardar and Chowkidar, police said. — (KIMS)
