Police seizes 2,781 liquor quarters, registers four FIRs during dry-day crackdown in Jammu
JAMMU (KIMS) — Jammu and Kashmir Police intensified its crackdown on the illegal sale and transportation of liquor during the dry-day enforcement drive around Independence Day, registering multiple cases and recovering more than 2,700 bottles and quarters of liquor in separate actions in Jammu.
According to a police statement, police intensified naka checking after all wine shops remained closed on the declared dry day and foiled several attempts to illegally transport and sell liquor.
During naka checking at Rah Salyote, police apprehended Rahul Sharma alias Kaka, son of Subash Chander, a resident of Rah, Tehsil Chowki Choura, Jammu, after he allegedly attempted to flee on a scooty bearing registration number JK02DS-6847.
During checking, 63 quarters of liquor, each measuring 180 ml, were recovered from his possession. During questioning, the accused allegedly disclosed the location of a hideout near his residence where additional liquor had been concealed.
Acting on the disclosure, police searched the hideout and recovered approximately 2,654 bottles/quarters of liquor. In this connection, FIR No. 206/2026 under Section 48-A of the Excise Act was registered at Police Station Akhnoor.
In another action at around 8:15 pm, police intercepted a motorcycle bearing registration number JK02DA-5575 after its rider allegedly attempted to flee on noticing the police party.
The rider was identified as Surjeet Singh alias Sunny, son of Kartar Singh, a resident of Devipur, Tehsil Jourian, Jammu. A search of a bag hanging from the motorcycle led to the recovery of seven quarters of JK Desi Whisky, each measuring 180 ml, along with two litres of illicit desi liquor.
A case, FIR No. 205/2026 under Section 48(a) of the Excise Act, was registered at Police Station Akhnoor.
Police said two more cases had earlier been registered during the dry-day enforcement drive.
FIR No. 203/2026 under Section 48(f) of the Excise Act was registered against Madan Lal, son of Tej Ram, a resident of Lehar Sungal, Akhnoor, and Sanjay Kumar, son of Chaman Lal, a resident of Karangi, Akhnoor.
Another case, FIR No. 204/2026 under Sections 48(a)/(f) of the Excise Act, was registered against Deputy Ram, son of Feru Ram, a resident of Naiwala Colony, with police recovering a total of 57 quarters.
Jammu Police said the enforcement drive forms part of its continued efforts to curb the illegal sale and transportation of liquor and ensure strict compliance with dry-day restrictions. — (KIMS)
