Decade-long terror network dismantled in Kashmir; key operative exposed after years of covert infiltration

LeT Module Busted in Srinagar; Five Arrested, Including Two Pakistani Terrorists

Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir Police have busted an interstate Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terror module in Srinagar, arresting five individuals, including two Pakistani terrorists, officials said on Tuesday.

According to official sources, the operation is part of a wider anti-terror crackdown aimed at dismantling networks operating both within and outside Jammu and Kashmir. The investigation has now expanded to Punjab, where coordinated  is being carried out with the support of central agencies.

Key Accused and Network Details

Police sources identified one of the key operatives as Abu Hurera, a Pakistani terrorist who allegedly infiltrated Jammu and Kashmir over a decade ago. He is believed to have established a deep-rooted network across multiple areas, including Gassu, Wanihama, Chaterhama, and Denihama, with Harwan serving as a major logistics hub.

Investigators say Hurera embedded himself within local communities over the years. His reported marriage into a family linked to Jamaat-e-Islami is being examined as part of efforts to understand how he gained trust and operational cover.

Officials revealed that the module was involved in terror financing, with funds allegedly routed through Saudi Arabia using Hajj and Umrah channels. These funds were then distributed locally to sustain militant activities.

Hurera’s residence is suspected to have functioned as a safe house, facilitating shelter, movement, and logistical support for operatives over an extended period.

Wider Links Under Probe

Authorities are also probing possible connections with local institutions. Sources indicate that during security operations in 2022–23, certain locations, including areas around Kashmir University’s Naseem Bagh campus, may have been used as temporary hideouts.

Additionally, investigators are examining allegations linking members of the network to serious criminal activities. These claims are currently under verification as part of the broader probe.

Officials stated that the crackdown was based on intelligence inputs and digital intercepts indicating the presence of a larger Lashkar network extending beyond Jammu and Kashmir.
